Metro Kendo Club proudly celebrates the achievements of two of our esteemed sensei: our Head sensei, Tomoyuki Akita-sensei (7 Dan), and Akinori Wada-sensei (7 Dan), for earning their Shogo (称号) titles!

  • Renshi - Tomoyuki Akita-sensei

  • Kyoshi - Akinori Wada-sensei

Earning a shōgō title is not automatic upon achieving a certain dan rank. It involves demonstrating qualities of leadership, teaching, and a commitment to promoting kendo. While Dan grades measure your technical skill and physical ability, Shogo are teaching titles or leadership ranks.

Think of Dan grades as your degree, and Shogo as your professional accreditation to teach and lead. These titles are awarded by the All Japan Kendo Federation (AJKF/ZNKR) and its international affiliates to practitioners who demonstrate not only superior skill but also exceptional humanity, insight, and contribution to the art.

We are honored to have sensei who exemplify the spirit of kendo and inspire us all! Congratulations and thank you for your unwavering commitment to Philippine Kendo and to Metro Kendo Club! 🇵🇭
