For new joiners, you will pay Php1,500, which covers your first two months (Php1000 for January-February OR June-July, depending on when you sign up) and enrollment fee (Php500).
After that, our monthly / per-session rates apply:
Note for Parents: Practice is FREE for minors age 6-17 years old! While they are exempt from dojo fees, a standard enrollment fee is required to get started.
Metro Kendo Club is run for the love of the art, not for profit. Because our Sensei(s) teach on a purely volunteer basis, we are able to keep our rates low. The dues we collect are used strictly to cover our operational expenses, such as dojo rent, administrative costs, and maintaining our online services and presence through advertisements.
*Mondays and Wednesdays are sessions that are dedicated to experienced Kendoka (kendo practitioners), and there won't be a dedicated sensei to assist less experienced members. While we don’t discourage beginners from attending our Monday/Wednesday sessions, without a dedicated sensei for basic training, it may be difficult for less experienced members to get the specific guidance they need in the fast-paced environment of the weekday classes.
❌ Rates EXCLUDE equipment, but you don't immediately need the equipment to get started, as we only require beginners to attend in workout clothes and the club will lend you a shinai (bamboo sword) in the first few sessions.
❌ Fees are non-refundable, regardless if there are practice days that you missed.
The club will provide all necessary equipment at the start. While it’s not mandatory, we do recommend purchasing your own shinai (bamboo sword) for so you can practice at home.
The club doesn’t sell equipment, but we’d be happy to guide you on the best type, size, and where to buy one. A kendo uniform (keikogi and hakama) and bogu (kendo armor) aren’t immediately needed for beginners. Most members purchase these items after several weeks or months of practice.
Beginners usually use bogu only after 4–12 months. For now, you’re only required to wear comfortable sports attire during practice. Please note that no footwear is required, as we practice barefoot. We also ask that no jewelry or accessories be worn for safety and to avoid losses.
While we don’t discourage beginners from attending our Monday/Wednesday sessions at Treston, BGC, please keep in mind that the curriculum is tailored for experienced Kendoka. Without a dedicated sensei for basic training, it may be difficult for less experienced members to get the specific guidance they need in the fast-paced environment of the weekday classes.

We accept kids as young as 6 years old, and adults of any age! Minors are exempt from dojo fees.
Our classes our usually segregated between kids, adult beginners, adult intermediate, and advanced class. This way, we can focus on you depending on your level and age.
Absolutely not. Kendo is famously known as a "lifelong martial art." Unlike sports that rely solely on raw athleticism or speed, Kendo emphasizes technique, timing, and mental discipline; qualities that often sharpen with age.
At Metro Kendo Club, we have several members who didn't pick up a shinai (bamboo sword) until they were well into their 50s. Whether you are 15 or 55, the journey is about personal growth and practicing at a pace that respects your body’s limits. It is never too late to start.
For the equipment, there are a lot to consider. To start off, the club can lend you a shinai (bamboo sword) for practice. You can purchase one so you can practice at home, normally it's priced at Php1000+.
As for the uniform or gi and hakama, it's normally priced at Php4000+. If you intend to commit more to kendo, that's when you decide to buy the armor, because that's the most pricey set you need for kendo. You can purchase a brand new bogu (armor) for around Php20,000+. There are also some members who sell secondhand from Php6000 or more, depending on the condition.
The club doesn't sell any equipment, but we can introduce you to our sensei who sells kendo gear: https://www.instagram.com/kendogu_esaki/ (https://www.instagram.com/kendogu_esaki/)or https://www.facebook.com/kendogearshop (https://www.facebook.com/kendogearshop)
We can also assist you with getting second hand gear from our members.
