Before ending the year, Metro Kendo Club usually hosts our Yamanishi Cup and Christmas party but due to the pandemic, we made it different this time. We hosted our very first monthlong Great Suburi Challenge that was held every Sunday at 1 pm. Participants were paired to a random wheel picker filled with different types of suburi in which they need to execute in 1 min. It was a fruitful weekend for the Luzon based kendokas as United Kendo Federation of the Philippines staged their first official event of 2020, a Kata/Shinsa Seminar to prepare participating kendoka for the various shinsa (dan ranking exam) that will be held later this year. This is the first of three such seminars, with the Mindanao and Visayas legs to be held in February. The Osawas come by to practice with Metro Kendo Club (joined with IGA Kendo Club) before the year ends. Rina Osawa practiced Metro Kendo Club years ago and has returned to practice with us this year with her husband, Osamu Osawa -san. Last weekend we also held an exclusive 2 day women's practice with her to gain more knowledge in bridging the gap between women practicing kendo in the kendo community.
